While multiples account for only a small percentage of all births (about 3 percent), the multiple birth rate is rising.

Septuplets - A multiple birth in which seven babies are born from one pregnancy.

Two babies born at a time are twins; three are triplets, four are quadruplets, five are quintuplets, six are sextuplets, seven are septuplets and eight are octuplets.

Twins get a lot of attention - though not as much now that there are quads, quints, and even septuplets wandering around news magazines on a regular basis.

However, while quadruplets, quintuplets, and septuplets may make headline news, around 95 percent of multiple pregnancies are still twins.

The McCaughey septuplets were in a pyramid configuration. As the babies get bigger, it's harder for them to move much to get into the proper birthing position.
