Many women will notice some spotting or light bleeding early in pregnancy.

Spotting is light bleeding similar to your period and it can happen at any time during pregnancy, but it is most common during the first trimester.

Is spotting during pregnancy normal?

Spotting is light bleeding from the vagina similar to, but lighter than, a period. It varies in colour from red to brown.

Spotting in early pregnancy probably means that the sack that the baby is in is attaching to the uterine wall. I would call my ob doctors office and talk to a nurse about it.

Pink/brown spotting since CD17 (5 dpo). Cramping also, but cramps nearly gone at 7 dpo. Headache. Tired. Feel "PMS-y".

Spotting and mild discomfort are common symptoms after a miscarriage. If you have heavy bleeding, fever, chills, or pain, contact your health care provider right away. These may be signs of an infection.

Spotting - Light bleeding that occurs at a time during the month other than the time of menstruation. Spotting can occur normally during pregnancy as the embryo implants into the uterus, after sexual intercourse or after a pelvic exam.

* Spotting early in pregnancy doesn't mean miscarriage is certain. Still, contact your doctor right away if you have any bleeding.

If you have spotting and haven't yet had an ultrasound to show that your pregnancy is in your uterus, contact your health care provider right away. Spotting can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy.

A small amount of spotting is o.k. and not a sign for alarm. However, do not have intercourse again until you have not bled for 24 hours. If the bleeding continues and if it is bright red, please call the office during office hours.

Bradley and he explained that some spotting is possible in the last three months, especially if this is your second or later pregnancy, and the blood comes from the thinning of the cervix in preparation for labor. Reading this put us both at ease.

It's normal to have some brownish spotting after an internal exam or a little wham-bam, but if you notice any bright red discharge or consistent spotting, call your doc or midwife immediately.
