I'm 11 weeks pregnant with triplets and have had spotting for three weeks, including red bleeding in the ninth week.

Spotting during pregnancy
Spotting is light bleeding similar to your period and it can happen at any time during pregnancy, but it is most common during the first trimester.

Spotting in the first trimester may be caused by:
A sensitive cervix: Hormonal changes and increased blood volume can cause bleeding from your cervix. Also after intercourse or a pelvic exam your cervix may bleed.

Spotting during early pregnancy is something every pregnant woman fears. It is possible to bleed heavily and not miscarry or harm baby, but you should make your HCP aware of any spotting you have.

Spotting may occur approximately eight to 10 days from ovulation. It usually happens around the same time you would have gotten your menstrual period. Some women assume they have started their period, when in fact, they are pregnant.

Spotting jaundice in fair-skinned infants is relatively easy. Most doctors suggest taking your baby into a well-lit room, applying gentle pressure to her chest, and looking for a yellowish hue to her skin as the pressure subsides.

Spotting - Light bleeding that occurs at a time during the month other than the time of menstruation. Spotting can occur normally during pregnancy as the embryo implants into the uterus, after sexual intercourse or after a pelvic exam.

Brown spotting is old blood that you bled a while back that is only making its way down and out now. The original bleed more than likely happened during implant. Regardless its old blood so it is an old problem.

Vaginal spotting/bleeding during the early months of pregnancy is normal for many women and does not always indicate that a miscarriage is imminent. In fact some light spotting can indicate that the placenta is attaching correctly to the uterus wall.

Implantation Spotting -- Bleeding associated with an embryo implanting into the endometrium around 5-10 days after ovulation. It is not uncommon, but it is not the norm.

METRORRHAGIA- Spotting or light bleeding at an unexpected time for menstruation to occur in a menstrual cycle.

Abortion, Threatened: Spotting or bleeding that occurs early in the pregnancy. May progress to spontaneous abortion. ACTH: A hormone produced by the pituitary gland to stimulate the adrenal glands. Excessive levels may lead to fertility problems.

Bradley and he explained that some spotting is possible in the last three months, especially if this is your second or later pregnancy, and the blood comes from the thinning of the cervix in preparation for labor. Reading this put us both at ease.

Of course, we're not talking about a whole lot of bleeding here--merely what is perceived as spotting. It must also be noted that these cells usually don't bleed with sex--usually there is a predisposing condition, like cervicitis.

Causes
Some pregnant women bleed around the usual time of their monthly period.

Signs of miscarriage include vaginal spotting or bleeding, abdominal cramping, and pressure in the lower back. Should you experience any of these symptoms, visit with your health care provider as soon as possible.

Some women find that they get slight bleeding (or 'spotting') in the first few weeks of pregnancy, often around the time they would normally have their period.

Have vaginal bleeding (for light spotting, you can call at any time on the same day).
Have had regular contractions for an hour. This means about 4 or more in 20 minutes, or about 8 or more within 1 hour.

Often, brown vaginal spotting or light bleeding, intermittent or continuous, may precede pain by several days or weeks. Sometimes nausea and vomiting, dizziness or weakness, shoulder pain, and/or rectal pressure may be experienced.

Spotting or vaginal bleeding also can occur during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. As many as 40% of pregnant women may experience some bleeding. Check with your doctor if you're concerned about spotting or bleeding.

Threatened Abortion: Spotting or bleeding that occurs early in the pregnancy. May progress to spontaneous abortion. If timely diagnosed and properly treated most threatening abortions will progress to successful delivery of normal and healthy baby.

You may experience some spotting or bleeding at the time the blastocyst implants into your uterus. Don't be alarmed ~ it's normal, but not all women will experience this. Most women are unaware of the exact moment of conception.

Yet we probably all know of highly intelligent people who are terrible at any kind of number-work, or who might do very badly on an IQ test that required pattern-spotting and the ability to imagine objects in 3d space.

Some women experience very light bleeding (called 'spotting') that they mistake for their period.
When should I do a test?
Home pregnancy tests can be on the first day of your missed period, and some very sensitive tests can be used sooner than this.

Light bleeding or spotting is also common. The fetal membranes can rupture (known as "water breaking") before or during preterm labor. If this happens, a trickle to a sudden gush of fluid will drain from the vagina.
