Pain relief for childbirth has run the gamut over the ages. And the battle is still being fought today. Should a woman have medications or not during birth is not a question that I anticipate an answer for anytime soon.

The most popular narcotics available for labor and delivery include Demerol and Stadol. The narcotics do not take away the pain completely, but can help dull it for as long as the shot is effective.

Demerol, Nubain, and Stadol are the commercial names of narcotics sometimes given to relieve labor pain. These medications travel through the body in the bloodstream.

And that stadol med that goes in the IV, what a joke! It knocked me out inbetween contractions, but I woke up for all. After the epi, I was fine, but couldn't feel the push.
