Preeclampsia (toxemia of pregnancy) is a serious disturbance in blood pressure, kidney function and the central nervous system that may occur from the 20th week of pregnancy until seven days after delivery.

Toxemia
Disorder of pregnant women characterized by elevated blood pressure, swelling of the feet and hands and loss of protein in the urine (see pre-eclampsia ). The cause of toxemia is not known.
Toxemia
Toxemia is a term used to refer to a combination of high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Toxemia has been found as a symptom of seizures in pregnancy. It can cause swelling in the hands and feet due to fluid retention.
Toxemia of Pregnancy
Toxemia of pregnancy is a clinical syndrome characterized by elevated blood pressure, protein in the urine, fluid retention and increased reflexes. It occurs only during pregnancy and resolves completely after pregnancy.
Toxemia: More commonly called preeclampsia, toxemia is a complication of pregnancy characterized by high blood pressure and protein in the urine after 20 weeks gestation. Symptoms include rapid weight gain and increased swelling.
Toxemia of pregnancy: Another term for preeclampsia.
Toxoplasmosis: A disease caused by a parasite. It may be present in undercooked meat or cat feces.
