Vulvar cysts
Vulvodynia means painful vulva. The vulva is the external female genitals, including the clitoris and labia. It includes the mound of tissues over the pelvic bone that becomes covered with hair at puberty.

Vulval varicosities disappear almost instantaneously with the delivery of the baby and it is unlikely you will ever get them again.

This glossary is adapted from the National Women's Health Information Center, a service of the Office on Women's Health in the Department of Health and Human Services.

Vulva: Female's external genitalia.

Window of implantation: The time during the menstrual cycle when the uterus will allow implantation of an embryo. The uterus is only receptive from six to ten days after ovulation.

Pour warm water over your vulva as you're urinating.
Prevent pain and stretching during bowel movements. Hold a clean pad firmly against the wound and press upward while you bear down. This will help relieve pressure on the wound.

The vulva area is quite dry. The initial discharge as ovulation approaches should be white or creamy colored, sticky and moist.

Avoid strong soap products in your vulval area and change to a non-biological soap powder for washing clothes.

If you have a daughter, you do not need to scrub the inside of her vulva vigorously. Just gently spread her labia, then wash and rinse them with soap and water from front to back. You may notice a white, cheesy substance inside the labia.

Vulvovaginitis refers to inflammation of both the vagina and vulva (the external female genitals).

Darkening of the skin is common, especially on the face, abdomen, vulva, thighs, and around the nipples. As pregnancy progresses, the palms of the hands often become red, and small spider veins may develop on the arms and face.

The period of about six weeks which follows immediately after the birth of a child.

Varicose veins occur most commonly in the lower legs, but may also develop in the thighs and vulva (between your legs). Varicose veins around the anus/back passage are called haemorrhoids (piles).

In the first trimester try warm Sitz baths, patting the vulva dry and using a hair dryer to keep the area dry for symptomatic relief, Zinc Oxide or Aquaphor ointment may be applied externally as needed for relief of irritation.
