Why the Womb Should Be a Smoke-Free Environment

An unborn baby is at risk for many complications when the mother-to-be smokes. Dr. DiLeo explains the harmful effects of cigarette smoke to the fetus.
In the womb, the developing brain is exposed to hormones that affect how it forms; boys get more testosterone, which favors development of the left side of the brain, and girls get more estrogen, which sparks more connections throughout the brain.
Mother's self-concept - preferably positive- helps fetus to learn better in the womb. The fetus's social environment base is its mother! Educating the fetus rightly begins with a healthy (in all respect) motherhood.

Womb: The womb (uterus) is a hollow, pear-shaped organ located in a woman's lower abdomen between the bladder and the rectum. The narrow, lower portion of the uterus is the cervix; the broader, upper part is the corpus.

The womb is made up of a network of muscle fibres. At the height of a contraction, the muscle fibres are at their shortest and the pain is most intense. It can feel like strong period pains or a belt tightening across your abdomen.
Your womb has already doubled in size, although you won’t be ‘showing’ yet. The 8 weeks pregnant symptoms will mean you may find you need to visit the toilet more often as your growing uterus presses on your bladder.
As the womb becomes more cramped, the baby draws up his legs in what is known as the fetal position.

The uterus is the womb. That is, the organ in which the pregnancy develops. Specifically, the pregnancy develops in the lining tissue called the endometrium. The endometrium is surrounded by muscle called myometrium.

Babies whose mothers smoke can suffer from delayed growth in the womb (the risk of giving birth to an underweight baby doubles for smokers).
