Zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT) is a procedure similar to IVF. In ZIFT, the embryo is surgically placed in the end of the fallopian tube, where fertilization normally takes place.

Zygote Intra Fallopian transfer (ZIFT)
In vitro fertilization with a transfer of the zygote into the fallopian tube; a combination of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT).

The zygote immediately begins to divide and replicate itself, forming a ball of several hundred cells called the blastocyst. After it travels to the end of one of the mother's fallopian tubes, it embeds itself into the wall of the uterus.

The zygote begins to develop rapidly within a day after it is fertilized. In three days, a cluster of cells (morula) will exit the Fallopian tube and enter the uterus. Then a fluid-filled cavity will form as the morula grows.

In this technique, a fertilized egg via the IVF technique is injected into the fallopian tube, as in GIFT. Conception takes place in the lab.

FERTILIZATION- Union of egg and sperm, which forms a zygote. Once the sperm and egg fuse and the first cell division has occurred the zygote has become an embryo.
