Balloon maturity is usually associated with a bond issue that has a single and fixed maturity date. Rather than quoting the value of the bond in terms of price, the worth is quoted in yield expected at the maturity date.

 


BALLOON MATURITY - A maturity within a serial issue of securities (usually the last maturity) that contains a disproportionately large percentage of the principal amount of the issue.

Any principal due at maturity is called the balloon maturity. Small-firm effect The tendency of small firms (in terms of total market capitalization) to outperform the stock market (consisting of both large and small firms).
