The time period between harvests, which varies according to the com-
modity. In general, the wheat crop year runs from July 1 to June 30 and the soybean crop year runs from September 1 to August 31.

 


A crop year is the period of time it takes to go from one harvest to the next harvest. A crop year can approximately a calendar year in length, if crops are only planted once per year.

Carryover: Grain and oilseed commodities not consumed during the marketing year and remaining in storage at year's end. These stocks are "carried over'' into the next marketing year and added to the stocks produced during that crop year.
