Cycle analysis has a long history and is also part of technical analysis. All markets appear to be subject to cyclical patterns and forces caused by economic influences and countless other factors.
CYCLES
Overview
Cycles allow us to accurately predict events in nature: bird migrations, the tides, planetary movements, etc.
Stock market cycles are the inherent results of investor sentiment. Stock market cycles occur due to investor confidence building up and investor confidence waning. Prices do not change because of the fundamentals.
What this means is that, like politics, the extremes in market and economic cycles get most of the attention.
This attention can be easily confused with importance.
Cycles of the Economy
When it comes to predicting the next cycle of the economy, you're going to have to do that research elsewhere. Once you're in a cycle, it's pretty easy to figure out if the economy is expanding or contracting.
Cycles - While nothing is perfect, the 4-year cycle in the stock markets is uncanny with its reliability to provide substantial lows in the stock market. It is pretty simple; you should look for a low in the stock market every four years.

But what about Moving averages, Kalman filters, RSI, Stochastics, Cycles (Astro & other), Dow Theory, Elliott waves, Fibbonnacci, Fuzzy logic, Artificial intelligence, Chaos Theory, Delta theory, Trend-lines etc., etc. ?
Detrended prices allow to more easily identifying cycles and overbought/oversold levels. Short- term cycles add together to create longer-term cycles.
