DAX Stock Index investment & finance definition
An index of 30 selected German blue-chip stocks that are traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The index was created with a base value of 1,000 on December 31, 1987.

DAX® Index
This index, developed in 1988 and encompassing Germany's 30 largest-volume and most actively traded stocks, is the leading index of the German stock exchange company "Deutsche Börse.

The DAX is short for the Deutscher Aktien Index (you're probably better off remembering just DAX). It is the stock market index in Germany that consists of the top 30 blue chip companies that are traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The L-DAX Index is an indicator of the German benchmark DAX index's performance after the Xetra electronic-trading system closes based on the floor trading at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The best known national indexes are the American, DJIA (Dow Jones Industrial Index), UK FTSE 100, and the German DAX (Deutscher Aktien IndeX), among others. Global indexes reflect the international performance of stocks.

A lot of traders are trading the stock indexes like the FTSE, the DAX, the S&Ps, NASDAQ and the DOW, but rather than use futures they are using spread betting firms.

If 20:1 leverage is offered on Index-tracking CFDs, this means that if an investor buys, for instance, 50 DAX® Index-tracking CFDs at 6300, then their collateral requirement will be approximately EUR 15,750 or 5%.

Germany's DAX rose 0.31 percent to end at 6,901.35. France's CAC40 edged 0.07 percent higher to finish at 3,490.06. Britain's FTSE 100 inched 0.09 percent higher to close at 5,892.75.

Most commodity and futures traders use the S & P but they may also trade the DAX, the NASDAQ, and the Dow Jones.
