An order type to buy or sell a security that remains good until it is executed or the investor decides to cancel it. Brokerage firms may set limits on GTC orders to automatically expire after 30 to 60 days.

GTC (Good till cancelled): A GTC order remains active in the market until the trader decides to cancel it. The dealer will not cancel the order at any time therefore it is the customer's responsibility to remember that he possesses the order.

A trade order placed for a specific amount of time to buy or sell a foreign currency. An order left with a dealer to buy or sell at a fixed price.

A GTC order remains active in the market until you decide to cancel it. Your broker will not cancel the order at any time. Therefore it's your responsibility to remember that you have the order scheduled.

On January 18, 2000, I placed an after hours GTC (good till cancelled) limit order on Island ECN to buy GALT at 30. I could not get the trade executed before close of business at 8:30 p.m.

GTC= This order will not be cancelled unless you cancel it. They usually have a maximum time limit such as 120 days. It will keep rolling over to the next day if it is not filled.

Scenario 1:
EURUSD goes down to 1.4900 or below and then order (1) gets executed. Order (2) will then become active.
