The Inertia indicator was developed by Donald Dorsey and first appeared in the September '95 issue of Stocks &Commodities magazine. Dorsey chose the name "Inertia" because of his interpretation of a trend.

The indicator of Inertia is taken from the physics realm. It describes the phenomena of continuous motion of the body until an outside force acts upon it.
Inertia is one of forex technical indicator used by many traders in forex technical analysis. Inertia is defined in terms of massand direction of motion. Using technical analysis to analyze securityprices, the direction of motion is easily defined.

Rotational inertia increases as weight is distributed to the outside rim of the spinning object. A bicycle wheel, for example, has a lot of rotational inertia so it spins for a long time and is very stable while it spins, ideal for a yo-yo.
During the early phases of new trends, volatility rises but inertia tends to slow down price rate of change. This often generates a series of tests or congestion mini-patterns while price tries to escape the influence of the old range.
