That is until the Intermarket Trading System (ITS) was created in 1978. It allowed brokers and traders to buy and sell shares in exchanges that were competing with the New York stock exchange.

There is another group emerging called the Intermarket trading system, but this type is not yet fully developed or employed by any definable group of traders.
