Junior mortgage
A mortgage that is subordinate to claims of a prior lien or mortgage. Borrowers sometimes use junior mortgages to obtain additional funds needed for downpayments or closing costs.

Definition:
A Debt or Equity issue from one Corporation over which the Issue of another Firm takes Precedence with respect to dividends, interest, principal, or security in the event of liquidation. ...
Junior mortgages typically carry higher interest rates and shorter loan terms than first mortgages. A higher rate means larger monthly payments and an increase in overall loan cost. However, junior mortgages are often less costly than unsecured loans.
JUNIOR LIEN BONDS or JUNIOR LIEN REVENUE BONDS - Bonds that have a subordinate claim against pledged revenues or other security, also known as "subordinate lien bonds." Compare: PARITY BONDS; SENIOR LIEN BONDS.
