LEAPS: Acronym for long-term equity anticipation securities , which are long-term listed options, with maturities that can be as long as two and a half years.

Flex Option An exchange-traded options that does not have the standard terms of listed options. The customer and the market maker can negotiate various terms, such as strike price and expiration date.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) revolutionized options trading by creating standardized, listed options in 1973. Before 1973, options were individually tailored and traded over-the-counter by a few put/call dealers.

Exercise Price
The price at which the underlying security can be purchased (call option) or sold (put option). The exercise price is determined at the time the option contract is formed.

An optionable stock is a stock on which listed options can be traded.
Orphan stock
An orphan stock is a stock which has largely been ignored, typically orphaned stocks are small and/or their sector is out of favour.

Exercise - To invoke the right granted under the terms of a listed options contract. The holder is the one who exercises. Call holders exercise to buy the underlying security, while put holders exercise to sell the underlying security.

The expiration date for listed options is the Saturday after the third Friday of the expiration month. All holders of options must indicate their desire to exercise, if they wish to do so, by this date. Read more about Futures Expiration.

Listed Option
A put or call option that is traded on a national options exchange. Listed options have fixed striking prices and expiration dates. See also Over-the-Counter Option.

Normally, this refers to bids and offers made for large blocks of securities, such as those traded by institutions. Listed options may be used to offset part of the risk assumed by the trader who is facilitation the large block order.

Options Clearing Corporation (OCC): The issuer of all listed options contracts that are trading on the national options exchanges.

It is the price at which the call holder may exercise to buy the underlying security or the put holder may exercise to sell the underlying security. For listed options, the exercise price is the same as the Striking Price.

Exchange traded or listed options are transacted through a broker and have standardised expiry dates, contract amounts, and strike prices.
