Overview
The Member Short Ratio ("MSR") is a market sentiment indicator that measures the short selling activity of members of the New York Stock Exchange.
The member of a futures exchange who accepts responsibility for all trades cleared, or settled, through him or her. The clearing member is responsible for matching the buy orders with the sell orders to make sure that the transactions are settled.
NYSE Member Short Sales Ratio
The NYSE Members Report is compiled by the SEC and issued about two weeks after the applicable date. This indicator is a useful tool to determine what the experts are doing.
The Member Short Ratio (or MSR) shows the short selling activity of NYSE members, who trade on the floor of the exchange (the 'smart money'). If the members are short, they expect prices to fall in the short-term.
