Privatization (sometimes: denationalization, privatisation or - especially in India - disinvestment) is the economic process of transferring property, from public ownership to private ownership. An opposite process is nationalization.

 


Privatization
Conversion of a state-run company to a public-limited company by selling its shares to the public.

Bush in the 2000 presidential campaign. He also worked in the Reagan administration. He was a proponent of the 2001 tax cut and also favors the partial privatization of Social Security by introducing private investment accounts.

Private equity firm Leonard Green has been particularly active lately, having agreed to buy Jo-Ann Stores and take part in the buyout of J. Crew Group, as well as being the likely suitor for a BJ's Wholesale (NYSE: BJ ) privatization.
