Selling securities after a recent, often rapid price increase. This is often the action of short-term traders cashing in on gains from the rise.
The profit-taking started moving in on Thursday. Expect another day or two of profit-taking before the uptrend can resume. After Thursday's big selling, a Doji-type day should be anticipated today.

One of my Super Trader clients came up with what I thought was a very productive profit-taking exit. The exit started out with a wide stop and kept the stop wide as long as the market was moving strongly.
Don't let the market panic you with fear by closing out too early (that's where limit orders come in handy as they automate the profit-taking process).
It is normal to experience profit-taking after an advance. Volume analysis helps distinguish between normal profit-taking and heavy selling pressure. With light volume on the pullback, indicators like CMF and OBV should remain strong.
