Registered bonds. Some corporate bonds are issued as certificates, with the owner's name printed on them. There are no coupons attached for the owner to submit for payment of interest.

 


REGISTERED BOND - A bond whose owner is designated on records maintained by a registrar, the ownership of which cannot be transferred without the registrar recording the transfer on its records.

Registered bond: A bond that is issued in a certificated form. There is a register of ownership with a new certificate issued each time the bond is sold.
Repo rate: The rate of interest applied to the cash involved in a repo transaction.

Registered bond: A bond whose ownership is recorded on the books of the issuing corporation. A registered bond must be endorsed by the registered owner before it is transferrable (as opposed to a bearer bond).

Registered bond
A bond whose issuer records ownership and interest payments. Differs from a bearer bond, which is traded without record of ownership and whose possession is the only evidence of ownership.

Bearer bond Bonds on which the coupon and principal are payable to whoever has possession of the bond certificates; an unregistered bond. The only evidence of ownership is possession.

Unique number given to a security to distinguish it from other stocks and registered bonds. See: Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures.

but are owned by the person who holds the bonds. Therefore, if you are the owner of a bearer bond, you must be extremely careful about making sure that the bond is not lost, stolen, or damaged. The opposite of a bearer bond is a registered bond.
