The style or family of a financial option is a general term denoting the class into which the option falls, usually defined by the manner in which the option may be exercised. The two great families are european and american.

Style The type of stocks or bonds that a mutual fund contains. Style can refer to the market capitalization of portfolio companies (large-cap, small-cap) or the companies' stock price relative to book value or earnings (value, growth).

A capped option is an option with an established profit cap or cap price. The cap price is equal to the option's strike price plus a cap interval for a call option or the strike price minus a cap interval for a put option.

Style

Asian-style option
A type of option in which the value of the underlying asset is expressed as an average over time (monthly, quarterly, annually), rather than its value on a specific date.
Ask price
Price the investor pays for a security.

A chart style where a thin line represents the price range for the instrument in the chart period. The opening and closing prices for the period are represented by a thicker line (red if the price finished lower and green if it finished higher).

European style put options are sold on European exchanges, while American style put options are sold in North American exchanges. The difference is quite simple.

American style option may be exercised anytime before and on the option expiration date. It is therefore priced more expensive than a european style option.
