Time Deposits A certificate of deposit or savings account at a bank or other financial institution where funds are not available on demand.

 


Time deposits, frequently referred to as certificates of deposit (CDs), are bank accounts that require the account holder to make a deposit and agree to leave funds in the account for a specific amount of time.

CDs are time deposits - you agree to place your funds on deposit with the bank for a stated period of time.

Certificates of deposit (CDs) are time deposits, which means you agree to leave your money on deposit for a fixed term. On traditional CDs, you earn compound interest at a fixed rate, which is determined by the current interest rate and the CD's term.

In has to be noted that the time deposits pay higher interest rate than demand deposits such as checking accounts. The reason is that the holders cannot withdraw the time deposits at their convenience.
