The triangle is mostly formed when there is a trend that has been running some time. Within the trend line there must be at least two highs that are lower and two lows that are higher. See the USD/JPY chart below.

A Descending Triangle is a pattern where the highs continue to push lower but the lows are somewhat flat. This is a bearish pattern that can cause the stock price to drop fairly quickly once the lows are finally broken.

A symmetrical triangle chart pattern is another tool used by traders as part of their technical analysis method. A forex Symmetrical triangle pattern is a trading continuation pattern that occurs while an uptrend or a downtrend is already in progress.

The Symmetric Triangle pattern usually occurs after a stock makes a significant move over a short period of time and then pulls back for a few weeks before making another significant move upward.

How to Use The Trade Triangles
For short term trading, you wait for a buy signal on the weekly chart which will show up as a green arrow with a 'W' in the middle of it (see chart above).

In addition to the three wave correction patterns, there is another pattern which appears time and time again. It is called the Triangle pattern.
