Albariņo

Wine AlbarinoAlbarola

Albariņo or Alvarinho are the Spanish or Portuguese names respectively for the same white grape.

ALBARIŅO: (a.k.a Alvarinho where grown in Portugal). White-wine producing variety, used to create a serious varietal wine with pleasant citrus fruit aroma, widely grown in regions of N.W. Spain and also in northern Portugal.

In the north west, the cool damp region of Galicia produces some fresh aromatic whites from the Albariņo grape, and Rueda is beginning to produce tasty, modern whites from Verdejo and Sauvignon blanc.

In Galacia, the most north-western part of Spain, Rias Baixas can be very drinkable. The wines are made from the Albariņo grape, and many are cold-fermented to maintain freshness, the antithesis of old white Rioja.
