Alfrocheiro Preto is a Portuguese red variety particularly prominent in the Dão blend of grapes and which is noted for its good colour, juicy character and retaining some fresh acidity even when fully ripe.
ALFROCHEIRO: Variety used for red wine production in the Dão DOC, Beiras region of Portugal. Can be found in blends also containing Jaen, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Pinheira.
The most cultivated red berried grapes of this region are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro Preto, Jaée and Bastardo, whereas the most cultivated white berried grape is Encruzado.
