Almondy

Wine AlmondAlphonse Lavalee

Almondy: Signifies the almondy taste that appears in young red wines made by carbonic maceration. This taste also reflect certain alterations such as excess oxidation in white wines, or the "taste" of light" in badly-stored sparkling wines.

Almondy: Refers to the taste of some wines.
Amarone: A dry but strong red wine from the Veneto region in Northern Italy. It is made from a blend of partially dried red grapes.
Amber: A shade of color some white wines turn after oxidation.

The whites were especially fetching: an almondy Soave Classico Superiore 1998 "Alzari" from Coffele (about $15) with an incredibly long finish . La Zerba Gavi "Terrarossa" 1998, with hints of sandalwood ($16) .

This is the classic white grape of Soave, notorious for its vapid character, although when made well from low-yielding, hillside vineyards, it can be delicately almondy and crisp.
Gewürztraminer (white) ...

Arneis, white grape of Piedmont in Northern Italy. Grown in very limited quantities in its homeland it is also encountered in Australia where it is aromatic and expressive with an intriguing ?almondy lasting power.
