Amador County is a county located in the Sierra Nevada of the U.S. state of California. As of 2005, the population was 38,471. Amador County bills itself as "The Heart of the Mother Lode" and lies with the Gold Country.

In the eastern part of California is located Sierra Foothills AVA, a pretty large area of about 250 square kilometers (about 61,800 acres) and the most interesting wine areas here are El Dorado AVA and Amador County.
The heart of the Gold Country region is comprised, from north to south, of Nevada, El Dorado, Amador, and Calaveras counties. Together, they are home to over 50 wineries.
