History

White grape grown mainly in Sicily as the Inzolia and partly on the coast of Lazio, Sardinia, Tuscany (especially the island of Elba) and in Calabria around Bivongi.

Among the most important autochthonous white berried grapes are mentioned Carricante, Catarratto, Grecanico, Grillo, Inzolia - also known as Insolia or Ansonica - Malvasia delle Lipari, Muscat Blanc and Zibibbo or Muscat of Alexandria.

The grape is also found in Tuscany region of Italy where it is known by the alias name Ansonica and used to make (eg.) a dry white wine described as "medium bodied with a salty but short taste".

blended with the Grillo and Catarrato Bianco grape wines in order to create the famous dry and sweet "Marsala" white wines of historical significance. The grape is also found in Tuscany region of Italy where it is known by the alias name Ansonica.
