Wine AstringentAtmosphere

ATHIRI: Commonly found on the western islands off the Greek mainland and the island of Rhodes. Usually used in a white wine blend along with the Aidani and Assyrtiko grape-wines.

 


ATHIRI: Pronounced "I thee ree". Claimed to be one of the most ancient varieties originating in Greece, taking its name from "Thira", now known as the island of Santorini.

DNA analysis does, however, suggest that the Athiri wine grape (a variety widely planted throughout Greece) is ancestral to Malvasia.
