AUXERROIS:
French local name for the Malbec, aka Cot red wine grape species grown in the Cahors region of France and also, confusingly, ...

Called Auxerrois in Cahors, Cõt in the Loire and or Pressac in other places, the grape became less popular in Bordeaux after 1956 when frost killed off 75% of the crop.

Hengst (Wintzenheim, 75.78 ha) Some growers, such as JosMeyer, persist with varieties ineligible for Grand Cru status, such as Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois and Chasselas, on this site.

It's called Cõt in Cahors, where it's the most widely planted grape, or Auxerrois in other regions of France.

In Alsace are also cultivated other white berried grapes - not belonging to the family of noble grapes but however interesting - such as Silvaner - here known as Sylvaner - Pinot Blanc, Chasselas, Klevner and Auxerrois.

It is known in much of France as Cõt, and, in Cahors, also as Auxerrois. There are in fact hundreds of local synonyms, since Malbec at one time was widely planted all over the country.

Semi-classic grape grown in the Bordeaux region of France and in other areas under the names Médoc Noir, Cõt or Pressac, while in the Alsace it has the local name Auxerrois. Also grown in the cooler regions of California.

Also known as, Noir de Pressac, Pressac, Auxerrois, Cahors, Pied Rouge, Jacobain, Grifforin.
