Cave: Some French wines are labeled "Mis en bouteilles dans nos caves". This means "bottled" in our cellars' but is no guaranteed of quality.

CAVE
An underground enclosure/tunnel with access from the surface often used to store wine because of stable temperatures and humidity levels.

Wine cave - A large cave that is excavated to provide a cool location for storing and aging wine. Similar to wine cellar.
Wine cellar - A cool, dark location in which wine is stored, often for the purpose of ageing.

Cellar or Cave: A cellar or cave is a place of storage for wine. Usually underground where the temperature can be maintained at constant levels. 14-15c is the preferred temperature for wines.

Cave French for "cellar." Cépage French for "grape variety," e.g.: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay, etc. Chardonnay white grape variety which accounts for almost all white wine production in Burgundy.

Ancient cellars (the French term being "cave") carved out of the limestone honeycomb the area. Saint-Emilion has been classified several times, in 1955, 1969, 1985 and as recently as 1996.

Winery: A place where wine is made. A winery can be made up of one or more buildings or no building at all; it can be a cave or an open-air assortment of tanks, barrels or other containers.

Look for Verget, Joseph Drouhin and Domaine des Maillettes (Guy Saumaize). Mâcon tends to be simpler than Saint-Véran, but it's loads of fun, less expensive and far easier to find. Some names to look for: Labouré-Roi, Cave de Lugny and Louis Jadot.
