Chelois (Shel-wah) - French-hybrid grape used in Eastern U.S. wines, makes a rather light and fruity red.
CHELOIS: French-american hybrid grape used to produce very good, robust, fruity red wines claimed to hint of Burgundy and often finished in a dry style. Prone to attack by fungal diseases and vulnerable to bunch rot near harvest in some years.
The well-known Seibel grapes include De Chaunac, Chelois, Chancellor, Cascade, Rosette, Rougeon and Aurora. Villard: Father of the Villard Blanc Bertille Seyve: His best-known crossing being Seyval Blanc. J.F.
