From EncycloWine
Colombard is a variety of wine grape, better known as French Colombard in North America.

Also known as, Pied Tendre, Queue Tendre, French Colombard, Wests White Prolific, Colombar.

COLOMBARD
A white-wine grape grown in California, France, and South Africa. Used to make simple fruity whites that range from dry to sweet. Also used for blending to provide acidity.

Colombard: These grapes end up making a wine with "tropical fruit" overtones, a light wine to go with seafood. It is used in South Africa and other countries. South Africa also uses Colombard to make brandy.

French Colombard: Fresh lemony fruitiness that is best enjoyed young. Its neutral flavour makes it good for blending.
Chenin Blanc: Appley-honeyed-floral scent, tart acidity, and good body. Best enjoyed young and fresh.

The main white berried grapes of California are Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, however are also cultivated Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Sémillon, Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Colombard, Marsanne, Roussanne and Muscat Blanc.

Look closely and you may also find small areas planted to Ugni Blanc and Colombard.

Ugni Blanc (known in Italy as Trebbiano) is the top grape; Colombard is another. Ugni Blanc in particular is so heavily planted that it is the No. 1 variety in France in vineyard acreage, but virtually all of it goes into brandies.

The fruit usually has very deep color, but is somewhat low in acidity. As California wineries experiment with Viognier-Chardonnays, Viognier-Chenin Blancs, and Viognier-Colombards, this may be the grape's ultimate destiny, as a blender.
