Another cultivar, called Cynthiana, closely resembles Norton, but has traditionally been considered a separate variety. Genetic studies, however, have shown the two to be indistinguishable.

PINOTAGE: Cultivar widely grown and successful in South Africa since its release in in 1925. Also currently grown in California (USA), Canada and Zimbabwe. Derived from the crossing of Pinot Noir x Cinsaut.

BLAUBURGER: Cultivar developed circa 1920 at the Klosterneuburg Viticultural College, Austria that resulted from a Portuguiser x Blaufränkisch cross. Mainly grown in Austria where it is used to create a fairly popular light red wine.

NOBLE: Muscadine cultivar widely grown in the S.E and Gulf states of the USA. Successfully used in Arkansas for producing red wine and juice. Similar to the Carlos grape above.

ONDENC: White-wine cultivar grown in France. Translocated to Australia where it is known under the alias names of Sercial and Irvines White.

The Noah grape is a cultivar derived from the grape species Vitis labrusca or 'fox grape' which is used for table, juice and wine production.

To be scientifically correct, these are cultivars because they have been developed by selective breeding through human intervention over thousands of years, but throughout the wine world they a termed varieties.
