DRUPEGGIO: Variety grown in the Orvieta DOC, Umbria, Italy. Has synonym names Drupeccio and Lupeccio. Usually the wine from this grape is blended with several others, eg.
History Canaiolo, also known as Canaiolo Nero to distinguish it from the white-berried version (Drupeggio) widely used alongside Trebbiano, Malvasia and Grechetto in many central Italian white blends, is one of the historic red grapes of Tuscany.
Orvieto is mainly renowned for its white wines produced with Procanico - the local name for Trebbiano Toscano - Verdello, Grechetto, Drupeggio - elsewhere known as Canaiolo Bianco - and Malvasia Toscana.
