Epernay
A principal city in France's Champagne district where the facilities for blending, aging and bottling of many Champagne producers are located.

A Champagne bottle is the product of grapes brought from the villages surrounding the main two cities Reims and Epernay.

The majority of Chardonnay is grown in a north-south-running strip to the south of Epernay, called the Cõte des Blanc, including the villages of Avize, Oger, and Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger.

Everybody knows Champagne, made in the Marne Valley around the cities of Reims and Epernay for more than 300 years, a wine so iconic that its name has been casually borrowed by other producers of sparkling wine around the world.

Around the 1690s, a Benedictine monk named Dom Perignon made some very significant developments as cellar master at the Abbey of Hautvillers in Epernay.

Part of this affection comes from a private tour we had at the French cellar in Epernay many years ago.

It in fact happened the crisp Chardonnay wines from Chablis were transported to Reims and Epernay and transformed in noble champenois bubbles.
