The quality of being fine, or having a certain flair.
Finish
The final impression that a wine leaves on the palate; a long finish is desirable.

finesse An indistinct term applied to a wine of complexity, grace and delicacy.

Finesse
One of the wine tasting terms I most recommend avoiding because it is vague and anthropomorphic. When not applied to wine the term suggests "subtlety in performance, skill" (Random House Dictionary).

Finesse
A wine with finesse exhibits elegance, refinement and delicacy. There is balance and harmony among its components.

Finesse: A French term used to refer to the "fireness" of exceptionally elegant wines.

Besides offsetting high alcohol and excess tannins in such blends, it is thought to add finesse and fragrance. A very small amount of Cinsault is produced in California where in the past it was known as Black Malvoisie.

finesse: An highly subjective and abstract term relating to a wine of delicacy and complexity.

Finesse. Distinction and grace in a wine.
Finish. The final taste of a wine, the lost impression.
Firm. Strong and well balanced, but still with a perceptible degree of tannin and acidity. See also Balance.
Flabby.

A balanced, rich, nuanced wine demonstrating finesse.
Corked
A moldy odor and flavor from fungus-infected cork attributed to small amounts of trichloroanisole (TCA) in the wine.

Manzanilla - this style of Jerez, produced at Sanlúcar de Barrameda, is very appreciated for its elegance and finesse.

Whilst the wines have elegance and finesse, for many Baileys is renowned as a producer of 'knife and fork' reds since 1870. The wines have a cult following, with all top end wine connoisseurs having some Baileys red wines in their cellars.

Even at the lower levels, fragrance and finesse are features here. Strawberry and violtes are often cited, as well as a fine boned structure and delicate complexity.

Parellada is a Spanish white grape used in Cava production, which can add finesse to the blend when grown in cool conditions.

A fussy grape to grow, it can produce lively, almost fizzing young reds with juicy, cherry flavours, as well as more concentrated, long-lived, oak-matured reds with superb, savoury, herb and spice flavours and great finesse.

Wine writer Natalie MacLean has likened Chardonnay to a dance partner who steps all over your feet, while praising Riesling for its subtlety and finesse with food or on its own.
