Floral - Flowery
Tasting term suggesting aromas of flowers in wine. Mostly applicable to white wine.
Forward
Tasting term denoting a wine which is felt immediately apparent and is ready to drink.

Floral (also Flowery): Literally, having the characteristic aromas of flowers. Mostly associated with white wines.
Fortified: Denotes a wine whose alcohol content has been increased by the addition of brandy or neutral spirits.

Floral Sensory characters reminiscent of flowers.
Grassy Used to describe wines with a herbaceous element similar to grass. These wines are often fresh in nature.

Floral - One of the wine tasting terms describing a wine with flower-like aromas or flavors. This can be a very pretty complexity in some wines.

Floral, Flowery: General term for a wine with aromas more reminiscent of flowers than fruit. May be very pleasant, especially in white wines.

floral: Wines made from the Muscat or Viognier grape have a flowery component, and occasionally a red wine will have a floral scent.

Floral - Smells like fresh flowers.
Fortified wine - Wines such as port and sherry, which have distilled spirits added, usually in the form of brandy or grape spirit to increase alcohol content. This is a world-wide practice.

Floral. A descriptive term for a wine that has a smell reminiscent of flowers or meadows.
Fruity. A tasting term referring to the flavor of grapes, which can include flavors of berries, citrus etc.

FLORAL/FLOWERY
Suggests the aroma or taste, usually aroma, of flowers in wine. "Floral" usually employed as an adjective without modifier to describe attributes of white wine aromas. Few red wines have floral aromas.

FLORA: Has synonym name California H59-90. Reported to be a selected cross of Semillon x Traminer Rot created by H. Olmo for white wine production. Currently grown in California, Australia and some other countries on a limited scale.

Fragrant, floral, and distinctively peppery. A trademark of Syrah, also found in Grenache, Carignan, Petite Sirah.

A floral smell in wines such as Gewurztraminer and young wines made of White Riesling grapes.

Fruity, slightly floral reds with a come on aroma and dry, light taste. One of the world's largest red wine varieties, it can be bland, but when treated with respect is delicious.

Rieslings have a floral aroma. They range from very dry and crisp to intensely sweet depending on where it is from. German Riesling is slightly sweet and balanced with some acidity. California Riesling tends to be sweeter.

Nose exhibits ripe red berry fruit - raspberry, black cherry, and a touch of earth and a floral element (rose petals?). In the mouth you get good ripe strawberry, raspberry, and black cherry.

To some, it conjures up images of gallon after gallon of gluggable, fruity wine, sometimes pretty, sometimes floral, sometimes labelled as Beaujolais Nouveau.

Best known as one of the mainstay grape varieties for which the french Alsace region is famous the popular Gewürztraminer produces white wines with a strong floral aroma and lychee nut-like flavor.

When one thinks of Australia, the things that first come to mind are its particular fauna and flora, its amazing, uncontaminated and wild places, but probably not its excellent wines.

The juice has a good colour, high levels of acid and tannin, with a fruity, floral nose and a distinctive varietal palate. While the wine produced is usually drunk early it will also age well.

A dried culture - Oenos Viniflora - available from Flory Bosa. A very small amount , about one-eighth of a teaspoon in 25 gallons, is sprinkled on top of the wine. I used it for the first time last year. It works very well without making a starter.

These grapes are generally turned into semi-sweet wines with a floral and/or spicy perfume and hints of honeyed-peach, pear, and tropical fruit in the flavors.

Diseases and adversity : floral abortion is subject to possible millerandage green , can also be leaking and burn of the bunch. Tolerate quite well the main cryptogams and climate disruption.

Pinot Noir - red fruits, floral, herbs
Chardonnay - cool climate: tropical fruit, citrus fruit in slightly warmer climes and melon in warm regions.

Late harvest Semillon wines are known to feature bright floral notes with hints of peach, pineapple and sometimes banana making up the bouquet. Typically they're yellow-gold in colour, thick with the buttery taste of apricots and honey.

At the top of the glass, the smells are more floral and fruity; deeper in the glass, they are richer. Try to detect the full range of scents from berry to floral to spicy to woody ... and so on. Consider intensity and appeal.

Riesling wines can be highly aromatic with apple, peach and pear at the forefront mixed with delicate floral undertones and often honey and spice on the nose.

Riesling - Rieslings are white wines known for their floral perfume. Depending on where they're made, they can be crisp and bone-dry, full-bodied and spicy or luscious and sweet.

Used by some wine tasters to describe the abundant floral quality of some white wines. It should be used exclusively for those aromas that derive from the grape itself (primary aromas).

Riesling
Laden with floral, apricot and peach notes, Riesling makes wonderful sweet as well as dry wines - all aromatic and lush in aroma and flavor.

A wine that has been given its own distinctive name, such as Flora Springs Trilogy or Caymus Vineyards Conundrum. Proprietary wines are often blends, which do not legally qualify to be labeled as a single-varietal wine (Chardonnay, Merlot, etc.).

Albariño. Signature white wine from Spain - sunny, peachy, floral and mouthwatering. Spanish wines - red, white, rosé and its sparkling Cava - tend to be excellent values these days.

Flowery: An attractive scent reminiscent of flowers. 'Floral' and 'fragrant' are similar words of approval often applied to pleasing young white wines.

Aroma: Aroma is the word used by wine experts to describe the grapey smell of wine, largely used to describe the wines with a floral or spicy smell. It comes from the grapes and often accompanies the wood aromas.

A descriptor used to describe wines that have pronounced smells, particularly fruity and floral smells.

There are many words to describe smells, but most of us have no training, or little practice, in using them, so we have to relate a wine's smells to something similar. For example, you may hear wines described as floral (rose, jasmine, violet), ...

Although Gamay Noir has more tannin than Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, it is still somewhat light due to the bluish-purple color of the grapes. Gamay Noir wine has a fragrant and floral taste that enhances the taste of the tomato soup.

Colombard produces crisp, off-dry wines with spice and floral attributes. In the New World especially it is used extensively for blending - in California predominantly with Chenin Blanc, in Australia with Chardonnay and Riesling.
