Gamay begins its annual cycle early as grapes go, budding and flowering early and may therefore become victim to early Spring frosts. Ripening is usually early to mid-season.

Gamay reaches perfection in the granitic soil of Beaujolais region. Gamay produces red grapes with white juice, smooth and fruity. The wine can be consumed young.

Gamay is a purple-colored grape variety used to make red wines, most notably grown in Beaujolais. Its full name is Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc, and it probably originated as a mutation of Pinot Noir.

First off, Gamay Beaujolais is a great value, and usually found under $15. These wines come from the Beaujolais area of France and are light, fresh, and fruity. They are designed that way.

Offer Gamay Noir wine with a hot bowl of tomato basil soup. Although Gamay Noir has more tannin than Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, it is still somewhat light due to the bluish-purple color of the grapes.

Beaujolais French region located at the southern end of Burgundy known for its wines produced with the Gamay grape. Beaujolais Nouveau literally "new Beaujolais," this refreshing wine is meant to be consumed within weeks after harvesting.

The original appellation was created in 1936, making it one of the Loire's oldest, although it has seen a fair number of revisions since then, and sub-appellations were introduced much later, with the introduction of Anjou-Gamay in 1957, ...

One of the main wines produced in this area is Rosé d'Anjou, mainly produced with Grolleau grape to which is often added Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon Cõt (Malbec), Pineau d'Aunis and Gamay.

A pretty region just south of Burgundy, Beaujolais makes fresh, fruity but sometimes rather simple red wines from the Gamay grape. The use of the winemaking technique *carbonic maceration helps to preserve the fruitiness of the wines.

Beaujolais Nouveau is made with gamay grapes in Beaujolais, France (it's north of Lyon and part of the Burgundy region). It's released on the third Thursday of November, just in time for Turkey Day.

When does Beaujolais Nouveau arrive?

It is originally from France, and some of the best Beaujolais makers are French wineries, but there are some good California versions (usually referred to as Gamay Beaujolais, or Napa Gamay) as well.

Perfumed:Describes the strong, usually sweet and floral aromas found in some wines, particularly white wines.

Said of a young fruity wine with moderate acidity, such as Muscadet and red wines from the Gamay grape.

A young wine which has aromas of fresh fruits.

Raspberrles: sensed in many red wines including Zinfandels, Petit Slrahs, and Gamays.

Other red varieties are grown (Gamay and Pinot Gris) and there are many, many clones of Pinot Noir in Burgundian vineyards as well. Additional white varieties include Pinot Blanc, Aligote and Melon de Bourgogne.

Some reds are typically lighter in color, and therefore should not be considered lacking; Pinot Noir and Gamay are good examples. However, pale colored Syrah or Cabernet Sauvignon is another matter, and your experience will guide you.

It comprises the districts of Chablis (dry white wines), Côte d'Or (red and white), Beaujolais (red), and Mâcon (white and red). The white wines are made from Chardonnay or Aligoté, the reds from Pinot Noir or (in Beaujolais) Gamay.
