Gamey
Imprecise taste term usually reserved for older wines that exhibit smells and flavours associated with damp undergrowth, mushrooms, well hung pheasants and unwashed farmers' feet.

GAMEY/GAMELIKE
Descriptive term for one of the flavors/aromas considered particular to Burgundian style Pinot Noir red wines. Reminiscent of taste and flavor associated with cooked wild duck and other "gamey" meats.

Gamey
Another spin on "earthy," this one very much as the name implies, marrying meaty and organic qualities. Quite common in older red Rhone wines.

Gamey
Used to refer to game meat-type aromas in some wines. This quality in wine is not particularly flattering.
Glycerine
Product of fermentation which has a sweetening effect on dry white wines and adds texture and character.

As in "gamey," above, a specific kind of "earthy" quality, quite literally reminiscent of raw beef, sometimes found in red Rhones.

In the late 1980s and 1990s, California vintners also became increasingly fascinated by the grape. The wine often has an unmistakable whiff of white pepper along with wild gamey, boysenberry flavors.
