Before finishing up, a few words on the other Nantais wine regions. First up, Gros Plant du Pays Nantais, commonly abbreviated to the simple Gros Plant.

 


GROS PLANT:
Minor grape related to the Folle Blanche grape formerly used in making the distilled Cognac brandy wines. Now found mainly grown in the Loire-Muscadet region of France and used for blending purposes.

Small acreages still remain in the western Loire region that are used to produce an often light, sharply acidic wine called "Gros Plant du Pays Nantais" locally claimed to be a useful foodmatch alternative to Muscadet de Bourgogne.

The fermentation of Muscadet is generally done in steel tanks, however some producers also make use of casks with different sizes even for aging. Finally, in the same production area of Muscadet, is also produced Gros Plant, ...
