Herbal - A wine that has aromas or flavors of herbs. Again, this can be a nice complexity as long as it is not overpowering.

 


Herbal: Having aromas and flavors that suggest herbs.
Hollow: A term used to describe a wine that doesn't have depth or body.
Hybrid: The genetic crossing of two or more grape types; common hybrids include Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus.

Herbal
Smelling of herbs, such as lemon balm, lavender, mint, rosemary, sage, savory, thyme or verbena.
Honest
Decent, without flaws or defects, but having no great qualities. Unadulterated.

Herbal, herbaceous
General term (see also "vegetal," below) for wines with "green," "grassy" or "haylike" aromas.

herbaceous Many wines have a distinctive herbal smell that is generally said to be herbaceous. Specific herbal smells can be of thyme, lavender, rosemary, oregano, fennel, or basil and are common in Rhõne wines.

It can also be rather ordinary, light, simple, herbal, vegetal and occasionally weedy. It can even be downright funky, with pungent barnyard aromas.

Nose is still a bit closed, but deep down are some aromas of bitter earth, tobacco, distinctly herbal spices (sage, thyme, bay leaf, maybe the slightest hint of rosemary), ash, and some black fruits - licorice, prune, cassis.

Traditional Sangiovese emphasize herbal and bitter cherry notes, while more modern, Bordeaux-influenced wines have more plum and mulberry fruit with vanilla oak and spice.

Sauvignon Blanc - Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine best known for its grassy, herbal flavors. Sauvignon Blanc is also called Fume Blanc, and is a popular choice for fish and shellfish dishes.

Wines for Veggie Trays: For those opting for the healthy veggie plate and creamy ranch dips, a bright citrus based Sauvignon Blanc with herbal undertones should fit the bill. For a red wine find, give Merlot a shot with your favorite vegetables.
