Jeroboam
A large format bottle, and the most confusing of all, for it means different things to different wines.

 


Jeroboam
A large 3 litre bottle meaning different things to different wines. In Bordeaux it is the equivalent of six standard bottles, whereas in Burgundy and Champagne it is the equivalent of four bottles (a double magnum in Bordeaux).

Jeroboam: Champagne bottle with a 3-liter capacity (equal to four standard 750ml bottles), or wine bottle with a 4.5-liter capacity (equal to six standard 750ml bottles). There are also some 5-liter Jeroboams.

Judging Wine
An extension of wine tasting where you use your sensory perceptions of sight, smell, and taste as a basis for evaluating the quality of wines.

Jeroboam: Oversize wine bottle; however, the exact size is not standardized. It may be equivalent to 4, 5 or 6 standard (750 ml) bottles, depending upon the wine producer.

Jeroboam
A large bottle format that has different meanings in different wine regions of France. A jeroboam holds the equivalent of six regular bottles of wine in Bordeaux but four in Champagne and Burgundy.

Jeroboam: The Bordelaise use this term for large-format bottles holding 4.5 liters, or the equivalent of six bottles. In Burgundy and Champagne, the Jeroboam is the same size as Bordeaux's double magnum and holds 3 liters, or four bottles of wine.

Sizes larger than Jeroboam (3.0 L) are rare. Primat sized bottles (27 L) - and as of 2002 Melchizedek sized bottles (30 L) - are exclusively offered by the House Drappier.
