(Redirected from Kékfrankos) Cluster of Blaufränkisch grapes Blaufränkisch is the official name for the variety of wine grape that is used to produce dry, red wines which are typically low in tannin and may exhibit a pronounced spicy character.
The region of Eger is pretty famous thanks to the production of a red dry wine, Egri Bikavér (literally "bull's blood of Eger") mainly produced with Kékfrankos grape and sometimes Kadarka as well.
Lemberger (Frankovka, Blaufränkisch, Kékfrankos) Origin: It is not explicit, the variety originates probably from Lower Austria or Croatia. The Heunisch variety was one of its ancestors.
Also known as the Kékfrankos grape in Hungary and currently the main ingredient partly replacing Kadarka in the red wine blend once famous as "Egri Bikaver".
