Kerner: A German cross of the Riesling grape and Black Hamburg (Trollinger), Kerner is resistant to frost and does well in cooler climates. It has a sweet taste, much like a Riesling wine. The grape does well in cooler areas like Michigan, US.
Kerner or Kernling - the last is a variant of the first but both produce grapes that are virtually identical. This is the third most planted grape in Germany even though first bred only in 1969 from the Trollinger and Riesling.

KERNER: Moderately hardy grape developed from a cross between the Riesling and Trollinger varieties by the Wurttemburg State Wine Institute of Germany.
KERNER: Grape developed from a cross between the Riesling and Schiava Grossa grapes. The latter variety is known as the Trollinger in Germany where it is mostly grown.
The variety of white grapes cultivated in Alto Adige are many, some of them are pretty particular, such as Grüner Veltliner and Kerner.
So what the hell is Kerner, and how do you say Kofererhof? It comes from the Alto Adige region in northeast Italy, the same place that brings us Pinot Grigio, believe it or not.
While Riesling has dibs on being the most widely grown grape in Germany, it shares the spotlight with several other white wine varietals, namely Muller-Thurgau, Silvaner, followed up by Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer and Kerner.
