Klevner (klev-ner)
In the Alsace region of France this name is sometimes used for the white wine grape Pinot Blanc. It can also be used for a wine that is a blend of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois.

 


KLEVNER: (aka Clevner). Alternative name in the Alsace region of France for the Savagnin grape.

Cépage clones of this variety have many alias names such as Auvernat Noir, Blauer Klevner, Coraillod, Noirien, Schwartz Klevner, Vert Dore, and even plain numbers. It has proved to be a capriciously acting and difficult grape for N.

In Alsace are also cultivated other white berried grapes - not belonging to the family of noble grapes but however interesting - such as Silvaner - here known as Sylvaner - Pinot Blanc, Chasselas, Klevner and Auxerrois.

blanc is allowed in both the Mâconnais and wine labeled "Bourgogne Blanc", but plantings are nearly phased out of the Burgundy appellation. There are still many pinot blanc vineyards in Alsace, where the variety sometimes is called Klevner.
