Madiran
In the middle of a region which only produces white wine, is a sanctuary.

Main AOC: Madiran, Jurançon, Gaillac, Cõtes du Frontonnais, Cõtes de Saint-Mont, Tursan, Monbazillac, Buzet, Pécharmant, Saussignac, Cõtes de Duras, Cõtes du Marmandais.

Minor grape grown in the Pyrenees region of France and one of the grapes used to create a red wine blend known as "Madiran". The grape is also known as Fer, (or Fer Servadou) and also, in other regions of France, is named Brocol or Braucol.

To continue the theme, Uruguay's top grape is Tannat which, like Malbec, also has it's home in the appellations of the south-west of France, this time principally in Madiran.

PINENC
A minor red-wine grape grown in the Pyrenees region of France. Blended with Bouchy, Courbu and Tannat to create the red wine blend Madiran. Also known as Fer, or Fer Servadou, and Brocol, or Braucol.

Fer Servadou is a robust red grape grown now almost exclusively in the South West of France, particularly in Madiran, where it adds aroma and good colour.

A variety resurrected from obscurity for use as one of the wines (along with Courbu Blanc and the Mansengs) used to produce white-wine blends in the Madiran AOC and Cotes de Saint-Mont AOVDQS of France.
