Master of Wine (MW) is a qualification (not an academic degree) conferred by The Institute of Masters of Wine, founded in 1955 and based in the United Kingdom.

Master of Wine
Is a qualification that is usually abbreviated to MW. Anybody who uses these letters has passed the rigorous Master of Wine examination that tests both practical and theoretical understanding of the wines of the world.
The Master of Wine and Master Sommelier qualification are perhaps the most famous and tricky qualifications to obtain.
There are just 168 Master Sommeliers and 280 Masters of Wine in the world. Gerard Basset has passed both examinations.
Writers/journalists may write about wine and may hold qualifications such as MW (Master of Wine).
Expect to pay more considerably more for the MS or MW expert.
The trade magazine Restaurant Wine, published by California based Ronn Wiegand (the first American to earn both the Master Sommelier and Master of Wine certification), recently surveyed U.S.
This stands for Master of Wine, and indicates that these dedicated individuals have passed the gruelling professional exams set by the Institute of Masters of Wine. Only a few hundred people have so far gained this demanding qualification.
