Meaty
Describes a wine with much body as if one could chew it like flesh meat.

Mercaptans: An unpleasant, rubbery smell of old sulfur; encountered mainly in very old white wines.

MEATY
With much body as though you could chew it. The reference is to lean meat, so indicates less body present than "fleshy".

Meaty and dense, Olorosos get their dark amber to brown color from exposure to oxygen during aging. These are more fortified than Fino-types (18-20%) and are rich with nutty and raisiny characters. Oloroso is still considered dry.

The Northern Rhône is the home of the Syrah grape (aka Shiraz), which makes full flavoured, meaty, structured red wines in the Appellations of Hermitage, Crozes Hermitage, Cornas, Côte-Rôtie and St Joseph.

From tangy cranberry jelly, to gooey-sweet yams, to spicy stuffing and meaty turkey, the traditional Thanksgiving lineup surely qualifies as the most schizo menu of the year.

The flesh has a varietal, neutral flavour which is slightly meaty and sweet-acidulous-astringent. Each grape has two or three average-sized, pear-shaped seeds. This very vigorous vine produces an abundant yield.

From the south of the town up to the border with Prémeaux come wines with the more meaty and masculine character that many look for in Nuits-St-Georges; here there are some equally familiar names, including Roncières, Porrets, Vaucrains, ...

Another spin on "earthy," this one very much as the name implies, marrying meaty and organic qualities. Quite common in older red Rhone wines.

Insert a meat thermometer into meaty part of a thigh, making sure not to touch bone. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Pour cola mixture over turkey; cover with foil.

Roll the wine around in your mouth exposing it to all of your taste buds. You will only be able to detect sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami (think: meaty or savory).

I opened it and poured it and didn't give it so much of a gander for an hour and a half and it still was showing very little on the nose, other than black pepper, maybe a hint of something meaty . or chocolatey . and a hint of black fruit.

Chianti Classico will be particularly full-bodied and meaty with alcohol levels well above the norm. Put these away, together with the long-ageing Chiantis from Rufina, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

If you do come across a wine that tastes very tannin-laden, try eating some food such as cheese or something equally meaty and hearty as it will have an effect on your taste of the wine as explained above.

Syrah/shiraz
A popular, intensely flavored grape that's notable in Rhone, France. It's also famous in Australia and is grown increasingly around the world. Often bold and velvety with black pepper, smoky ripe berry and meaty notes.

Other main dishes that match well with Pinot Noir include roasted and braised preparations of lamb, pheasant, and duck, as well as grilled meaty fish, such as salmon, shark, and swordfish. Best are foods that are simple and rich.

Its presence can be confirmed by rubbing some wine between clean hands and sniffing the palms for the characteristic meaty note.
