Mineral, Minerality
Tasting term referring to wines with mineral characteristics referring to their soil (terroir) such as clay, iron, slate, and stone flavours.
Moelleux
Moelleux is a French term generally applied to sweet wine.

Minerally: Having flavors or aromas suggestive of minerals. It may be described as chalk, iron, etc.
Moelleux: Sweet, mellow.

Mineral: Difficult-to-describe term that may reflect the "stony" character of Chablis. Associated with the minerals in the soil.
Mint: A specific flavor of mint, usually found only in subtle proportions. Often found in California Cabernets.

Minerally
Exhibiting aromas or flavours that suggest minerals.
Mouldy
Grapes, containers or corks that have developed mould transmit this "off" odour to the wine they contact.

Mineral ions: Electrically charged forms of minerals, usually occurring in solution in the soil moisture and available for take-up by roots.

Mineral
Difficult-to-describe term that may reflect the "stony" character of Chablis or the trademark flavor of Chateau Haut-Brion, or the odd, almost gasoline-like character (see "petrol" and "diesel") of older Rieslings.

The mineral composition of wine is special as it contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, sulfates, phosphoruses, all of which necessary to cover daily needs of human beings.

Leathery, mineral wines, some lack proper flesh. Good aromas. Difficult ripening the problem. The wines are sound but may not be long-lived.

Flinty
Dry, mineral character that comes from certain soils (mostly limestone) in which the wine was grown.
Flowery
Aroma suggestive of flowers. The most predominant floral aromas referred to are jasmine, honeysuckle and rose.

It's flint, a mineral, stony character that is almost universal in Chilean reds and not uncommon in its whites. "Minerality" is the new buzzword for quality among wine geeks; these wines definitely have it.

Nose: Intense mineral and spicy lime citrus. Nice stony quality.
Palate: Good citrus fruit (lime) and hints of spice (ginger?). Excellent edge of acidity - great for food matching - and a stony mineral character.

Gravel/ly Minerally, earthy quality
Green Usually unripe, sour, or acidic.
Grip Firm texture on the palate created by tannin and acid.

Microclimate
The climate in and around the grapevine's canopy.

A light, vibrant white wine that often has citrus, floral and mineral notes.

Indeed, lay translates directly into 'slate', which dominates the rocks and soils along the Mosel, varying in colour as we move along according to the precise mineral content; here it has a blue-grey hue.

Extract: Extract is the sum of all solids in the wine including sugars, tannins, pigments and minerals, giving the wine substance.
